Güldem Baykal Büyüksaraç (MPhil & PhD, Columbia University; MA, BA, Boğaziçi University) is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Istanbul University. She earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology from Columbia University and completed her postdoctoral studies at the George Washington University Institute for Middle East Studies. She has taught socio-cultural and political anthropology at Columbia, George Washington, and Boğaziçi Universities. During the 2019–2020 academic year, she was a senior fellow at the Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations (ANAMED). Her research spans a variety of fields, including minority politics, theories of space and landscape, the politics of heritage and conservation, critical development theory, and posthumanism. She is the co-editor of Commoning the City: Empirical Perspectives on Urban Ecology, Economics, and Ethics (Routledge, April 2020).
