Biyografi
I am a professor in marine science at Istanbul University, specialising in fisheries and ecosystem-based management. I obtained my PhD in marine biology from Istanbul University in 2010. From 2013 to 2015, I gained experience in fisheries conservation, particularly in data-limited stock assessment methods, as a visiting scientist at GEOMAR Helmholtz Ocean Research Kiel, Germany. I have over 20 years of experience in marine biodiversity, stock assessment, and conservation, working across the Black Sea and Mediterranean.
My research focuses on ecosystem responses to fishing and environmental change, with an emphasis on applying the ecosystem approach to fisheries. I contribute to international science-policy processes, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, and Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change, and I have served in leading roles in global and regional assessments.
