She was born in Adana in 1976. She attended primary and secondary schools in Silivri, Istanbul. In 1997, she graduated from the Department of Human and Economic Geography, Istanbul University. Sertkaya Doğan received her M. Sc. degree in Geography in 1999 and her PhD degree in the same field from Istanbul University in 2005. She started her Professional career in Istanbul University in 1998 and still works as an  Professor in the Department of Human and Economic Geography in the same university. Her fields of expertise are such subjects as Population, Urban and Tourism Geography. She conducts research on Human Geography with her M. Sc. students. Sertkaya Doğan has a good command of English.
