Muzaffer Arikan completed his undergraduate education in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Istanbul Technical University (2005-2010), his master's degree in Genetics at the Aziz Sancar Institute of Experimental Medicine (2010-2012), and his doctoral studies in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Istanbul University (2013-2018). During his PhD, he worked as a visiting researcher at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI, Cambridge, UK) for one year, focusing on microbiome, metagenomics, and bioinformatics. Following his PhD, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Regenerative and Restorative Medicine Research Center (REMER) Istanbul Medipol University, investigating the relationship between neurodegenerative diseases and the human microbiome, and served as an assistant professor at the same institution. Additionally, he worked as a visiting researcher at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM, Berlin, Germany) for one year, conducting research in microbiome, multi-omics, and bioinformatics. Currently, he is an assistant professor at the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Biology, Istanbul University, where he continues his research on the structure and functions of microbial communities through meta-omics analyses.
