UN Sustainable Development Goals
Biography
A graduate of Bogazici University, Buket Akgün holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Istanbul University, where she taught for almost 25 years from fall 1999 through spring 2024 and from where she qualified for early retirement in August 2024.
Akgun is former visiting researcher at Kyoto Seika University and former assistant professor of English language and literature at Istanbul University, where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses on Chaucer, Shakespeare adaptations, 18th-century English novel, mythology, speculative fiction, literature and media (paintings, film, television series, comics, and anime) among other topics.
Akgun conducted a research project on the retellings of English literature in comics, manga, and anime at the Faculty/Graduate School of Manga at Kyoto Seika University. Her current studies focus on historical, mythological, and literary retellings in comics, anime, film and television series.
