In a project conducted by Prof. Dr. Nuray Erkan, Head of the Department of Food Safety within the Department of Fisheries and Seafood Processing Technology, Faculty of Aquatic Sciences, Istanbul University, and Dr. Gökhan Tunçelli, faculty member of the Programme of Aquaculture within the Department of Aquaculture and Fish Diseases, the effects of microplastic exposure on aquaculture fish were investigated.
Scientists from Istanbul University reported, based on their research, that microplastics can reduce production in aquaculture by up to 18%, and emphasized that preventive measures are necessary to ensure sustainable production.
